As a result of recent tragic events in schools around the United States, some have inquired about MPA’s preparedness in the event of an emergency. From time to time, we conduct various safety drills to ensure that students and school personnel will be prepared in the event of an emergency.
Fire drills are the most common example of this kind of exercise. In addition, we conduct tornado and “lockdown” drills. Last fall, we conducted just such a lockdown drill in cooperation with the Maplewood Police. Staff and students alike performed in a manner that exceeded our expectations, and our police liaison officer was pleased with the results.
Along with the standard fire drills, our drill schedule this fall also includes a lockdown drill. Prior to the drill, teachers and administrators will be reviewing with students the correct procedures to follow during the drill.
