New Bluebird Nest Boxes Installed in the Rain Gardens by the Tennis Courts

The purposes behind the bluebird nest boxes are the following:
    a. Attract nesting bluebirds to the MPA campus. This will assist in the national effort to help this species in the face of nesting competition from the introduced starlings and house sparrows.
    b. Monitor the nest boxes, noting active nests, number of clutches laid each year, and successful young raised. This info will be communicated to the National Bluebird Society.
    c. Maintain the nest boxes and clean them out after each nesting season to reduce parasite infections.

It is hoped that with the success of bluebird nest boxes at Keller Golf Course that the same measure of success can be achieved here at MPA.  Bluebirds are observed here every spring, but no nesting birds have been seen.
