Reconstruction Work on Hwy 36 through North St. Paul

The following was released by Mn/DOT:

Preliminary work for reconstruction of Hwy 36 through the city of North St. Paul began Monday, March 26th.  As work progresses along the highway, local roads in North St. Paul will close.  Road closure signs will be placed at least seven days prior to closures to alert residents and motorists.

As reconstruction kicks in to high gear toward the end of April, Hwy 36 will close between White Bear Avenue in Maplewood and Century Avenue (Hwy 120) in North St. Paul.  The highway was closed May 1st and will remain closed until early fall.  During the work, the only north-south access remaining open will be at McKnight Road and Century Ave.

When completed, the reconstruction of Hwy 36 will include:  A diamond interchange at Hwy 36 and McKnight Road (Ramsey County Hwy 68); a bridge to carry traffic on Margaret Street over Hwy 36; and a pedestrian bridge over the highway to enhance safety for users of the Gateway Trail.  The project will also eliminate six "at-grade" intersections at Charles Street, Margaret Street, 1st Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street and McKnight Road.  Mn/DOT also plans to build auxiliary lanes for eastbound and westbound Hwy 36 between White Bear Avenue and McKnight Road and add a frontage road from McKnight Road to 1st Street.
