MSHSL State Speech Tournament Winners

17 MPA students competed in the MSHSL "Class A" State Speech Championships, and Mounds Park Academy was the only Class A school to win two championships out of the 93 that participated: Nancy Dietman - champion, Extemporaneous Speaking; Jaya Stenquist - champion, Serious Interpretation of Drama. Along with the championships MPA brought home 9 medals.

Eight other students reached the final rounds and won medals: Scott Boyd - 3rd place, Duo Interpretation; Abby Kohls - 3rd place, Duo Interpretation; Caroline Miller - 3rd place, Extemporaneous Speaking; Claire Daley - 4th place, Extemporaneous Speaking; Anna Krenkel - 5th place, Great Speeches; Alison Suzukamo - 5th place, Serious Interpretation of Poetry; Andrew Guiang - 6th place, Original Oratory; McKenzie Roese - 6th place, Serious Interpretation of Drama A.

Alison, Anna, Claire and Nancy all won their second medals this year, and Claire became one of only a very small number of MPA students to compete in four MSHSL State Speech tournaments. Andrew, Anna and Nancy were all competing in their third state tournaments.

These students also qualified for and competed at State, but did not break to finals: Logan Sand - Creative Expression; Lindsey Kenyon - Discussion; Rovena Mehta - Extemporaneous Reading; Greta Stacy - Humorous Interpretation; Mimi Ide - Humorous Interpretation; Emily Colton - Original Oratory; Ashley Delamater - Serious Interpretation of Prose.

MPA teachers Kari-Kunze-Hoeg and Katie Murr, as well as by Jim Studer, deserve credit for their hard-work and dedication as coaches for these students.
