Mounds Park Academy is a college preparatory school.
But what does it mean to be prepared these days?
Collecting facts and figures, solving equations, plotting graphs, identifying parts of speech, learning a new language – all that’s important. But it’s not enough anymore.
At MPA, we impart knowledge, but we’re even more passionate about the hows and whys. We teach young people how to see relationships and find patterns. We encourage them to start with one idea and juxtapose another. To expand a concept by linking it to something else. Because when they learn how to think – and to master the skill of connections – the journey of learning comes to life in amazing ways. And they’ll be arXmed with the skills and abilities that will allow them to thrive on any path, in any setting on any continent.

“I was one of the most well prepared students for academic college life in general, an attribute that I credit to the curriculum and community of MPA. This preparation has become apparent to me in different ways and at different times, however I have acquired an overwhelming sense that MPA really is the place to be.”
Kimberley Hansen, Class of 2006, Macalester College
Developing, strong, independent thinkers.
We use our creativity and resources to help students develop a strong sense of self. We teach them to understand and trust their own thought process and to find their own solutions. In other words, we don’t teach kids what to think, we teach them how.
Perfecting the art of communication.
By the end of their high school career, most MPA students are exceptional communicators. They can think on their feet and share well reasoned opinions. They can assimilate information and extract what’s useful – and come to thoughtful, decisive conclusions. Through age appropriate lessons at every stage, they learn to epress themselves confidently and articulately in speech and writing – skills that give them a distinct advantage in life after MPA.
