Philosophy
Art is an essential element in the growth and development of every student. The art department provides authentic learning experiences for students to create and produce solutions to visual problems thus gaining insight to the elements of the visual language. Through a variety of methods and mediums, students develop skills in self-expression and realize an appreciation of the world around them. |
Senior Sarah Duvall, Sophomore Louise Edwards, and Junior Kate Koosmann all received honors for their visual arts submissions at the Minnesota State Fair. Edwards’s chalk drawing of a calla lily received an honorable mention while her multimedia cityscape drawing received first place. Duvall’s work earned three ribbons. She was awarded first place for her watercolor painting entitled “Catskin” and first place for two muppets entered into the 3D category. She also received second place for her teapot and cup in the clay division. Koosmann had a photograph accepted into the State Fair Juried Art Exhibit. This exhibition is a highly competitive adult exhibition, accepting only about 10 percent of the submitted entries.
