State Meet

The state cross country meet is a bruising affair, as Mason learned in the first seconds of the race.

Mason was spiked by one of the favorites only a few strides into the race. It wasn't intentional. Just one of the challenges of a race that includes 160 of the best runners in the state. Another challenge is the blistering pace. Mason went through his first mile in 5:02, and hit the 2 mile split in 10:13. That would be a school record if run on the track! Ouch!

Mason hung on to finish in 5th place in 16:30, finishing ahead of 7 of the top 12 runners in the state, according to the final rankings. For his efforts, he earned a medal, the first ever by an MPA runner in the state cross country meet, and all state honors. Congratulations for an outstanding performance!

But Mason was not the only MPA runner in this event. Pete Simpson finished his MPA cross country career with a 31st place finish, his best perfornace in the state cross country meet. Congratulations, and thanks for everything you've contributed to our program!
