The 2011 Mounds Park Academy Baseball season saw some solid individual performances and some playoff success. Keith Wood (2011) set a new single season strikeout record by tallying 92 strikeouts in 47 innings of work and posting an ERA of 2.50. He also set a new single game record of 18 strikeouts. The Panthers won a first round playoff game for the third year in a row, but lost in a very tough, very close second round game. The Panthers have consistently advanced into the heart of the section 4A playoffs for several years running and hope to build on that success in 2012.
The 2011 squad received awards in the post season with Keith Wood (2011) being selected as First Team with Ryan Miller (2011) Honorable Mention Tri-Metro All Conference players. Keith is on the baseball team at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri and he joins Chad Hanson (2009 - Bemidji State University) as one of two Panthers playing collegiate baseball in the spring of 2012.
Seniors Billy Grant and Austin Smith will lead the squad into the 2012 season along with a large number of juniors and sophomores. Many members of the team worked with Twins Youth Development Director and batting practice pitcher, Erik Lovedahl in the fall of 2011 and winter of 2012 to further develop their skills. Excitement is high going into the 2012 campaign with both new and returning players in the baseball program. Go Panthers!
