Visual Arts Course Information

Visual Arts

Graduation Requirement: Three credits total from the fine arts (art, music, drama)

Art is an essential element in the growth and development of every student. The art department, employing a variety of methods, provides the environment and learning experiences for each student to create and produce solutions to visual problems and to develop skills and strengths in self-expression. By presenting and critiquing their own work, students gain insight into the elements of the visual language and an appreciation of art in the world around them.

Recommended Sequence:

We recommend students take Drawing in 9th grade as it is a prerequisite for all advanced level courses except Photography. (For example, you must take Painting and Drawing before you can take Applied Painting.) Refer to specific classes for prerequisites beyond Drawing. Any student that meets the prerequisite of a course and has faculty permission may move into the next level regardless of their age/year in school.

Priority will be given to students in 12th grade, then 11th, then 10th, then 9th grade students in that order, and to students who have yet to take the class.

Because of the depth of opportunities our program provides for art students to continue their growth over a period of years, students may not repeat courses unless given permission to do so by the instructor.
