World Languages Course Information

World Languages

Graduation Requirement: 2 options 1. Three years in grades 9-12 of French or Spanish 2. Two years of one World Language plus one year of another World Language

It is the goal of the World Language Department to help students develop proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing and to enable students to appreciate other cultures and to develop insights into their own culture.

World Language Policies:

  1. Student’s continuation onto the next level requires their teacher’s signature.
  2. Students earning a C- or lower must repeat that level.
  3. Students may repeat a level in grades 9-12 and receive departmental credit towards graduation. If the situation warrants, a student may repeat a level three times to fulfill their language requirement.
  4. Outside credit will not be accepted towards graduation requirements.
  5. Students who wish to skip a level at MPA must complete the following steps:
    1. have a written recommendation from the current teacher
    2. explain in writing what they will do outside of class to learn the missed material
    3. contact the teacher of the level being skipped
    4. pass the final exam of the level being skipped with a score of at least 83%.

- This skipped course will not fulfill MPA credits toward graduation.

- Please note: While every attempt is made to allow students to take two World Languages, variations in individual student’s schedules may make this impossible.
