Spring Sing

What a nice send-off for the seniors on their last day of classes!  Last Friday, we had the annual Spring Sing, and it was also the seniors’ last day of classes.  There were many teary eyes as we closed the assembly with the school song and the seniors realized it would be the last Spring Sing they would attend.  The beauty of the Spring Sing is that we gather as a school after all the concerts are completed and hear from most of the choirs, as well as the Lower School, while they each sing a few of their favorite songs. It is a tremendous experience for the Lower School to perform in front of the entire school and to hear the older students cheer for them when they finish.  To add to the experience, they then get to hear performances from all of the older groups. The Lower School students seem especially impressed by the choir robes that the concert choir members get to wear.  Many of them also commented on how many boys were in the choirs, which is a great message.  I personally think that hearing all 700 of us sing a canon was simply amazing.  Ms. Espeland taught us a song and we all echoed her and then we broke it into a round; Upper School started, Middle School second, and Lower School joined in third.  It truly was a lovely sound.  Thanks to the music department for taking on yet one more thing – it is definitely appreciated.

Next week seems to be the week of performances in the drama classes:

Monday, June 4th - Mr. Wilson’s class will perform at 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday, June 5th - Ms. Found’s class will perform at 9:55 a.m.

                  Ms. Stinson’s/Ms. Wright’s class will perform at 1:15 p.m.

Ms. Beggin’s class will perform at 2:15 p.m.

Wednesday, June 6th - Ms. Meland’s class will perform at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 7th - Mr. Clear’s class will perform at 10:00 a.m.

Ms. Stacy’s class will perform at 1:45 p.m.

You are all invited to the performances, as your children love to perform in front of a crowd.  Please do not ask to have siblings miss class to see their brother or sister’s play.  You can tell by the list of plays that there are many going on, and if siblings attended we would have children missing classes almost every day.  Teachers have many wrap-up activities they would like to do with their students, and it is still important that they are in classes.  Thank you for your support in this area.

You may notice the absence of 2nd grade in the list, but they had their big performance during the winter and are doing a more casual performance for each other during the last week.

Friday is the last day of school.  We begin the day with another All School assembly.  This assembly is put on by the yearbook staff and generally consists of numerous photos that have been taken all over the building.  It is fun to see the year unfold and the memories bubble up as the students watch the Power Point presentation.  Afterwards, the children return to their classrooms and receive their yearbooks, and then the annual signing begins.  The kids try to get as many signatures as they can in the end papers of their yearbook and, in doing so, they are able to say good-bye to people who have meant a lot to them this year.  If your child is not getting a yearbook, it is fun for them to simply get a little autograph book for people to sign.  The day ends early at 10:30 a.m. and there are no buses for pick-up, nor is there Panther Club.  If you cannot pick up your child at 10:30 a.m., please make arrangements to have someone else pick them up.

Thank you for a terrific year!
