First through 4th graders had their own experience on Friday the 18th as the author, Christine D’Amico visited campus. Each grade had a separate hour with her as she discussed not only her book, but writing in general. When one of the 4th graders stated that the opening sentence was often the most difficult thing for him to come up with, Christine mentioned that she too has that problem so she often skips the opening sentence, jumps into the story , and then comes back to the opening later. She shared a lot of writing tips with the students and took time to show them the stages of developing a book. She also introduced the term, “Duplicative Compound Word.” If you have never heard of such a term, I am sure a few examples will be all you need; higgledy-piggledy, hodge-podge, willy-nilly (I am sure you get the idea by now). This would make a wonderful dinner conversation, would it not? We all certainly enjoyed our time with Christine.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Used Uniform
Try to stay warm during this chilly part of the winter.
