The Lower School Parents Association has a myriad of things that they do throughout the year. One of their tasks is to plan three after-school parties to which all the Lower School students are invited. That is a pretty tall order! Our last party took place at school in the cafeteria last week, and Mary Jo Thrane did a terrific job of organizing it. It was fondly referred to as the "Lower School Pajama Party."
After school, the children scattered to the various bathrooms around the school where they changed into their pajamas. Then they came to the cafeteria where they were able to choose a balloon hat to wear. After donning their new hats, the majority of children headed straight to the snack table because there is nothing like a hungry child at the end of the school day. Once the music began, you just couldn't get their feet to stand still. The Teddy Bear Band provided wonderful entertainment and encouraged the kids to get involved by introducing hand jives and hoola-hoops. It seemed to work as the children whirled and twirled with little reservation.
A huge thank you goes to Mary Jo Thrane who organized the entire event. Many hands were on deck to help at the actual party, but Mary Jo was the person behind it all. She also served as the head of the Lower School Parents Association for the last two years. The two of us planned the meetings together and Mary Jo found the volunteers to work with us. It has been a good partnership, and I will miss her next year as she moves on to Middle School with her daughter.
