Who could have a better job than me?  One day I get to join the Pre-K families for their family music time . . .

. . . and the next day I am able to attend the fourth grade science fair.

Throw in a track and field day, a Spanish fashion show, the Spring Sing, the Author's Fair, and a few plays, and it about sums up my week.  Now you know why I return each year.

It is so rewarding to watch the children grow and mature.  As I danced and sang with the Pre-K children, I had a flashback to our mid-year family sing.  Many children at that time simply watched what was going on and most stayed very close to the adult in their life.  There were also tears from a few when the adults had to leave.  This time, almost every child participated with enthusiasm and, in addition to our singing together, we actually had a performance by these four and five year olds.  It brought tears to my eyes.

At the other end of the spectrum, it was very impressive to enter the gallery and see how our fourth graders had blossomed as scientists.  Each child had to come up with a hypothesis, figure out how to test it, collect data, and form a conclusion.  Then they had to figure out a way to display all of it.  There were plant growth experiments, squirt gun experiments, and even an experiment testing the angle of a potato shooter and its effect on distance.  I learned what gum keeps its flavor the longest, what popcorn works the best, and what toilet paper dissolves the quickest.

The beauty of all of us being in the same building is that all students, young and old, were able to wander through the science fair and either anticipate what is ahead or provide encouragement for hard work.
