The excitement was palpable as the third and fourth graders waited to be brought into the bowels of the dome where they would soon be singing the National Anthem. Who could have predicted that this experience would be happening in front of a sell out crowd? Each year, I am lucky enough to be a part of this adventure, but normally there aren't many people in the stands because it is the end of the season and the die has been cast. This year was different. You could feel it in the air.
Gathering outside of the Dome Warming up in the bowels of the Dome
Finally, after a number of warm ups and many wiggles, our escort arrives to bring us on to the field. To walk in front of the players that you have only seen on television, to see the actual size of the field that has to be covered by the baseball players is intriguing enough. Add the cameras, the bright lights and the huge crowd, and you have one lasting childhood memory. We are lucky that the children were able to find their voices to sing the National Anthem. Thanks to the preparation provided by Ms. Espeland, their choir teacher, they sang with confidence and once again represented Mounds Park Academy well. It is just one of the many experiences we provide our students.
