Note MS Parent Meeting Date Change
Please note that we have changed the date of the Middle School Parent Meeting (originally scheduled for Monday, September 10th). The new date/times: Wednesday, September 19th from 6:30-9:00 p.m. More information will follow shortly by letter, but we hope to see you all there!
Cracking the Code:
Dress code can be a touch confusing for Middle School students and their families, so I thought I'd take a moment to explain the exceptions to the rule. (General dress code information can always be found by clicking here. Exceptions to our usual dress code happen at various times throughout the year, and we do not normally send notification home but just tell students in the days leading up to the event. We have two types of non-dress code days: Spirit Days and Casual Days.
Spirit Days are special MPA spirit occasions, with our first one taking place on Friday, September 14th. (This is in honor of Homecoming, which occurs the following day.) On Spirit Days, students should come dressed in school colors (blue and white) and/or MPA-logo gear such as sweatshirts and T-shirts. Teams will often wear their jerseys (check with your coach or teacher), as will fine arts groups. Blue jeans are okay, as are T-shirts, as long as they are either blue, white, or have MPA logos. If students do not want to come in spirit wear, they should follow the regular dress code.
Casual Days tend to occur on a single grade-level basis and are usually on field trip days or the day before a long vacation. On Casual Days, students may come in any school-appropriate clothing, including T-shirts and blue jeans. There is no requirement that the clothing be any specific color or that it have MPA logos, just that it be appropriate for school. Thus, a T-shirt advertising a car company would be fine, but a beer T-shirt is not!
If your children have questions about a particular item of clothing or one of the above exceptions, please encourage them to speak with their teachers.
