Seeds of Progress

One of the great things about MPA students is how much they care about the world around them--globally, nationally and even here at MPA.  Last week, the sixth graders helped plant phase two of our Watershed Project on our campus.

For the past year or so, MPA Middle and Upper school science teachers have been working with our local watershed district on the design and implementation of our rain gardens.  Last week's work was to plant replacements trees, shrubs and other plants that did not survive the first season.  Courtney Nagle, sixth grade science teacher, points out that "the bonus is that the school has had free plants and labor to beautify the school, and it helps the watershed by using native plants which clean the water run-off."  Even better, all of these beautiful plants and ponds provide habitat for species, and we already have a blue bird hanging out in one of the trees.

Another great example of kids caring about the local community is the wonderful Cultural Fair this week.  If you have a chance, please do come--it's entirely run by Upper School students and is packed with entertainment, interactive booths for children, and wonderful food.

A quick note about the upcoming Grandparents and Special Friends Day:  Although the calendar says that 5th and 6th graders are released at 11:00 a.m., their actual release time is 11:30 a.m.  This will give them a bit more time with the guests!
