It's a techno world!
You are all, I assume, well aware of the changing role of technology in our lives (indeed, I now average 80 emails received a day). In the classroom, things have changed as well. Many of us here at MPA remember when the biggest technological shift in educational technology was moving from chalk boards to white boards. Now teachers are incorporating podcasts, PowerPoint, spreadsheets and iMovie, among other innovations, into their daily classes.
Technology, like most tools, has its good and bad aspects, but I suspect that parents are a bit unclear on where the line is between those two extremes. In an attempt to clarify those issues, I'll be presenting during the 7/8 PIE night next Friday, December 14th. Part of my presentation will be a discussion of technology in the classroom, with some advice for parents on how to manage this at home.
More interesting (in my opinion), I will be surveying parents electronically over the next week regarding technology in their homes. More to come on that in a day or so, but please check your email inbox if you are the parent of a 7th or 8th grade student. I'll be presenting the results of that survey at PIE night, which should be fun!
