SAVE the DATE: MPA Book Festival Middle School Cafe February 25-29, 2008

Now that the holidays are upon us, the New Year is on the horizon and with that comes the annual MPA Book Festival.  This year, the theme is "A Winter Wonderland."  Two weeks later than usual, it will brighten our lives from February 25-29, 2008.  The Middle School Cafe is THE SPACE for all 5th-8th graders during the Book Festival week and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

This year, the theme for the Middle School Cafe is "Under the Ice."  The Kreischer Gym will be transformed into a "Hot Spot" under the Polar Ice Cap.  We are featuring both poles, penguins, polar bears, glaciers and ice bergs, and global warming.  Students will visit the cafe during at least one English class and advisory, and they are invited to hangout during recess and lunch.  Used books donated by MPA families and new books from the Red Balloon Bookshop are selected for our Middle Schoolers and will be available to peruse and purchase in the Cafe.  Hot cocoa, cookies, donuts, chocolates, etc. will be offered for a nominal fee.  Kids should plan to bring spending money for books and treats during the week.  Any net funds go to the MPA library.  On Friday the 29th, we will once again host a Pizza Party for all Middle Schoolers from 3:10-5:00 p.m.  The Cafe will stay open during the Book Festival Family Night that evening until 6:30 p.m.  Watch for more information after Winter Break.

Volunteers are needed to set up and staff the Cafe.  If you want to see your child during the school day, this is the place to be!  If you are interested in working at the Cafe or helping to set it up, please email Jane Neumann at neuchun7@earthlink.net.  Even an hour of your time would make a huge difference to the Cafe.  Thank you!

MPORTANT NOTE:  Before you pack away your holiday trappings, please consider loaning or donating some items to the Middle School Cafe.  We operate on a shoestring budget, using primarily recycled or loaned materials to create a magical space for the students.  We can use icicle or snowflake lights, lighted penguins, white lace by the yard, bubble wrap, interesting clear plastic shapes, and used books.  Please bring any loans or donations to the South Reception Office when school resumes after Winter Break.  If you are loaning us an item, make sure that it is clearly marked with your name and we will return it to you after the Cafe closes.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
