2008-2009 Yearbook Recognized for Excellence

The 2008-2009 edition of Gnomon, the Mounds Park Academy (MPA) yearbook, has been cited for excellence by Jostens, a Minneapolis-based publisher of yearbooks. MPA’s yearbook is among 518 books featured in the 2010 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 8, a collection of spreads from outstanding yearbooks from around the world.

More than 3,000 schools submitted their books for consideration by a panel of judges.

The annual Gotcha Covered Look Book is a resource for yearbook advisors and staffs who are looking for inspiration and trends in design, inclusiveness, coverage, and photography. Volume 8 of the Jostens book was distributed to schools in March 2010.

“The yearbooks chosen for Jostens’ 2010 Gotcha Covered Look Book reflect the sophistication and relevance of yearbook programs,” said Gary Lundgren, Jostens senior program manager/education. “The samples demonstrate why yearbooks remain so popular among students as a means to capture and share their school experiences and traditions.”

The theme of the 2008-2009 Gnomon, is “three equals one.” The categories in the book are:

  • three schedules | one year (student life, events, activities)
  • three voices | one passion (classrooms, stage, clubs)
  • three seasons | one goal (fall sports, winter sports, spring sports)
  • three beginnings | one memory (senior portraits, superlatives, half pages)
  • three divisions | one school (Upper School, Middle School, Lower School)
  • three farewells | one end (parent ads, conclusion, index)

“Yearbook is an elective class,” said KaTrina Wentzel, MPA teacher and advisor. “Students complete assigned pages and take assigned photographs. They learn the basics of writing, design, photography and leadership. The team also feels a sense of accomplishment when they work together to produce something they can be proud of and share with others.”
