CharlieKramerAs the 2016–17 school year comes to an end, we’re sharing the college choice stories of several members of the Class of 2017.

In what grade did you come to MPA? 8th

How did you come to choose the college that you did?
I received a lot of scholarships and was also admitted into a very prestigious honors program which required online applications and in person interviews.

What did you appreciate most about the college counseling process at MPA?
The College Counseling Office actually suggested Nebraska to me, so I decided to talk to the rep at the MISP College Fair. As soon as I did, I knew Nebraska would be a good choice.

What about your MPA experience has best prepared you for college?
Being able to choose my schedule and adjust it has really helped. As someone who wants to major in a mathematics field, I wanted to be able to take all the math classes available and MPA let me do that.

What is your advice for the Class of 2029 (kindergartners)?
Find something you love doing and keep doing it. Whatever it is, whether its math, science, arts, English or athletics you can find a career that has to do with something you enjoy and are good at.

Insights from Ms. Pederson, Director of College Counseling:
Charlie was very focused on a specific career path as he conducted his college search. We knew he wanted a strong Actuarial Science program, which he explored at several universities and at a small liberal-arts college that offers a Risk Management major. He really got into the nitty-gritty of the departments, honors and advising programs, and career centers. He also considered student life and school spirit factors. Ultimately, he had his choice of multiple fine universities and honors programs, as well as scholarship offers, and chose the one he felt was strongest. At the University of Nebraska he earned selection to the Honors Academy in the College of Business and was named a Nebraska Legends Scholar.

The 54 members of the Class of 2017 were offered admission to 113 different colleges/universities in 31 states, Washington D.C., and Canada. They will attend 33 different colleges/universities in 14 states. Learn more about MPA’s College Counseling program here! >
