Joe Dziedzic, former NHL player, University of Minnesota Golden Gopher star, and Minnesota's 1990 Mr. Hockey, is Mounds Park Academy/St. Paul Academy's new hockey coach.

Dziedzic is already familiar with the Academy's hockey program, having served as interim coach for the varsity hockey team since January 2010. In his permanent role, he will have responsibility for both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Coach Dziedzic is eager to work with students from both schools to begin to solidify the foundation of the hockey program.

Dziedzic is a Twin Cities native with an impressive list of athletic and professional accomplishments. He was the state's Mr. Hockey in 1990 and played collegiate hockey for the University of Minnesota. The NHL Pittsburgh Penguins selected him as their second pick in the 1990 draft. For the next five years, Dziedzic played in the NHL, for the most part with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played alongside NHL Legends Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr. When injuries ended his professional career in 2000, he returned to Minneapolis where he launched a very successful business as a hockey instructor and coach.
