Mounds Park Academy's Amber Washington makes history with sixth state tennis title

Mounds Park Academy senior Amber Washington made history in Minnesota girls high school tennis by winning her sixth Class A state championship. The all-time mark was five.
Washington defeated sophomore Sonya Das of St. Paul Academy and Summit School 6-4, 7-5 for the Class A girls singles title at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in south Minneapolis.
Washington, who won last year's Class A singles title, won four state doubles titles between 2006-09. She entered the 2011 Class A state tournament tied with three players with five titles - Gina Suh of St. Paul Academy & Summit School (1989-93 Class A singles titles), Anh Nguyen of Bloomington Jefferson (1992-96 Class AA singles titles) and Whitney Taney of Edina (2002-03 Class AA doubles titles, 2004-06 Class AA singles titles).
