Kristen Bourne is one of 30 senior female students from St. Paul area high schools selected as Athena Athletes for their athletic talents and accomplishments. Kristen was chosen for her accomplishments in cross country, nordic skiing and track and field earning 18 varsity letters. She was a Tri-Metro All-Conference selection 14 times and a 4 time Nordic ski conference champion. Kristen was the Section 4 nordic ski champion this past winter. Kristen also participated in 2 cross country and 4 nordic ski State Meets. Congratulations Kristen!

The Nordic ski program has a sensational day at the Section Meet held yesterday at Green Acres.
Senior Kristen Bourne and Junior Nick Gardner both won to sweep the individual section 4 titles. Joining Nick and Kristen at State will be Ellie Hands (6th place finish) and Kethan Dahlberg(8th place finish) in their races.Great exciting day for MPA. Go Panthers on to State!

Lansing Sports Center Open Saturday Mornings Jan & Feb 2013
The Lansing Sports Center will once again be open Saturday mornings to MPA families and their friends from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon January 12th through February 23rd, with the exception of Saturday, February 2nd when MPA will host a Boys C Team Basketball Tournament.
You are welcome to come and use the track, sports center and fitness center.

Athena Award Winner 2012 - Amber Washington
Amber Washington is one of 30 senior female students from St. Paul area high schools selected as Athena Athletes for their athletic talents and accomplishments. Amber was chosen for her accomplishments in tennis and track. As a six-time State tennis champion (four State Doubles and two State Singles), Amber is the first girl ever to win 6 State Tennis titles in Minnesota State High School League history! Amber's career match record was 177 wins and 6 losses! Amber has also received 6 Varsity letter awards in Tennis and one in Track. Congratulations Amber!
Nordic Ski State Qualifiers 2012

The Nordic Skiers had a sensational day at the Section 4A Meet. The boys' and girls' teams both finished third out of eleven teams.
In the Boy's race, John Brooksbank finished fifth and Nick Gardner eleventh to qualify for the State Meet Thursday, February 16th.
In the Girl's race, Kris Bourne finished third, Kim Bourne eighth and Ellie Hands ninth to qualify for the State Meet.
Nordic Ski 2011-12 Girls Capture 1st Tri-Metro Championship, Kris & Kim Bourne Repeat as Conference Champions
Congratulations to the girls' nordic ski team for winning their first ever conference championship at the Tri-Metro meet on Tuesday at Elm Creek Park Reserve. Ski team members include Kim Bourne, Kate Nicholson, Kris Bourne Laura Nicholson, Ellie Hands, Angela Gerdts, Haley Finch, Erin Quam and Molly Gardner.
Kim and Kris Bourne were individual co-conference champs with Ellie Hands finishing third and Laura Nicholson fifth to all earn all-conference honors. Kate Nicholson finished fourteenth to earn honorable mention.
The boys nordic team finished second in the conference to Minnehaha Academy. John Brooksbank placed second with Nick Gardner finishing fourth and Ben Gardner sixth to all earn all-conference honors. Kethan Dahlberg finished eighth for the boys earning honorable mention.

Seven months after reconstructive knee surgery, won the freestyle race in 7 minutes, 30 seconds at the ABC Relays on Saturday at Theodore Wirth Park. Was tripped at the start of the race but rallied for the victory. MPA finished second in the 36-team event. Will ski next season at Colby College in Maine. Has finished first or second in each race this season.

Amber Washington 2011 State Tennis Champion and Kare 11 Athlete of the Week
Mounds Park Academy senior Amber Washington made history on October 28, 2011 in Minnesota girls high school tennis by winning her sixth Class A state championship. The all-time mark was five. Washington defeated sophomore Sonya Das of St. Paul Academy and Summit School 6-4, 7-5 for the Class A girls singles title at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in south Minneapolis.
Washington, who won last year's Class A singles title, won four state doubles titles between 2006-09. She entered the 2011 Class A state tournament tied with three players with five titles - Gina Suh of St. Paul Academy & Summit School (1989-93 Class A singles titles), Anh Nguyen of Bloomington Jefferson (1992-96 Class AA singles titles) and Whitney Taney of Edina (2002-03 Class AA doubles titles, 2004-06 Class AA singles titles).
No boys high school tennis player in Minnesota has won more than four state titles. Ken Boyum of Minneapolis West won singles and doubles titles in 1942 and 1943.

Amber Washington Back to State Tennis 2011
Senior, Amber Washington won the Section 4A singles championship to qualify for the State Tournament next Thursday, October, 27th and Friday, October 28th at the Reed Sweatt Tennis Center for the sixth year in a row. Amber will be going after her sixth State Championship in tennis. She was the State doubles champion along with Beth Larson in 7th and 8th grades and Kate Roach in 9th and 10th grades. She won the singles championship last year as a junior.
