On September 11, 2007, Mr. Jim Stewart (father of Annie Stewart, class of 2011) visited the Beginning Ceramics class.  He brought in pieces of Blackware pottery, in particular a special piece made by the Native American potter Maria Martinez whom the students had just seen a film about the previous day.  Mr. Stewart has traveled extensively throughout the Southwest, with a keen interest in Native American art work.  His collection and stories were rich and connected real life experiences to our classroom work.
