Enjoy the music!

Over the next few weeks, there are two opportunities to enjoy some of our musical ensembles.  On Wednesday, February 28th, there is an US Vocal Concert.  Joining the US Chamber Choir will be the 3/4 Choir.  This is the first time a Lower School choir has performed at an US concert.  On Monday, March 5th there will be the US Band Concert.  Come and enjoy the Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Bands.

Upper School Parents

Registration for next year’s classes will begin soon after spring break.  I would like to invite all Upper School parents to a meeting before the US Vocal Concert on Wednesday, February 28th, in the Recital Hall.  The meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m.  Randy Comfort, the Assistant Upper School Director, will talk about the registration process, graduation credits, and answer any questions about student’s course selections.

Surprising Trends in Drug Use:  What Parents Need to Know

On Friday, March 2nd there will be a speaker on teenage alcohol and drug issues at MPA.   Please join Middle and Upper School parents the night of the Upper School Dance and 7/8 Dance for an informative and lively discussion by Derrick Crim of Hazelden.   Mr. Crim is a chemical dependency counselor and Certified Prevention Specialist who has worked extensively with teenagers and young adults for assessment and treatment, as well as with children to develop healthy decisions regarding alcohol and drugs.  PIE (Parents in Education) Nights take place during Middle School dances, providing an opportunity for parents to learn more abut important family topics as well as spend some time socializing with other MPA parents.  Dessert and coffee will be available at 7:00 p.m., speaker at 8:00 p.m., followed by question-and-answer period.  For more information and to volunteer to bring a dessert, please contact Robin Brooksbank at rwbrooksbank@cs.com.

Think Summer

The College Counseling Office has created a bulletin board display (outside Room 148) of various summer programs and camps throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Programs include two-week and four-week academic programs, leadership camps, music and theater programs, and adventure/travel programs.  Students and parents are welcome to check out the collection of view books and application materials that can be found in the College Counseling Office.  In addition, you can research summer opportunities online by clicking here.
