MPA Student Organizations

MPA has always supported active learning, both in the classroom and in numerous extra-curricular activities.  The Upper School provides opportunities for students to enhance their academics through participation in several student organizations.  These organizations address the needs and interests of Upper School students.  The students, with the support of a faculty advisor, run each organization.  Every MPA student has the opportunity to become involved in any of the following groups.  Invitations to meetings are sent out via email to all students.  Most of the organizations meet once a week during lunch recess.  There is a posting in the US Office with days and room numbers.  The current student organizations are:

Amnesty International is a non-partisan international organization whose purpose is to identify victims of political oppression – political prisoners – and to initiate letter writing campaigns aimed at putting pressure on governments to:  1) Allow visitation; 2) Abstain from the use of torture; and 3) Provide a fair trial.

The Environmental Club raises the school’s awareness of the many environmental issues confronting society today.

GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) promotes dialogue about sexualities, promotes awareness of and education about the nature of sexualities, to engender socialization with similar groups in other schools, and to be active in promoting social change around issues of sexuality.

Habitat for Humanity recognizes that we are in a position to contribute to the well-being of the local community.  The group hopes to do so by working in cooperation with local high schools and colleges to help build simple, decent, affordable housing for low-income families.
