Egg Drop
Since the late 1980's, MPA 9th graders have participated in the annual "Egg Drop Contest." Mr. Thomsen's 9th grade Physical Science students are given the task of constructing a container, no larger than a shoe box, that will protect a raw egg in a drop of 46 feet. They may not use commercially prepared packing devices or packing peanuts. They cannot use a parachute, streamers, or wings. And the device must have a mass less than 200g. Mr. Thomsen stands on the MPA roof and drops the eggs in their protective shells. The current record container this year was made by Zach Q. But that record will be challenged next quarter by a new group of 9th graders. The all-time list of results is posted in Mr. Thomsen's room.
