Ellie Senior PhotoIn what grade did you come to MPA? 4th

How did you come to choose the college that you did?
I liked the vibe of the campus and all the opportunities it will give me in the next four years. I want to go pre-med and Colgate University has many opportunities for research and internships.

What are you most excited about as you embark on your college experience?
I’m very excited to be in a new environment and state. I’m excited for the freedom that comes with being a college student and figuring out my own path over the next four years.

What did you appreciate most about the college counseling process at MPA?
Ms. Pederson was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process junior and senior year. There were some weeks at the beginning of senior year where I met with her every single day to talk about different applications or essays.

What about your MPA experience has best prepared you for college?
I think the teachers have definitely prepared me as much as possible for college. The teachers are always so willing to help whether it’s with a small homework assignment or a final paper. I think they’ve definitely helped me develop my writing skills to the best they can be.

What is your advice for the Class of 2029 (kindergartners)?
Try everything you can—you never know where you’re going to find your passion.

Insights from Ms. Pederson, Director of College Counseling:
I loved having Ellie as a frequent visitor to my office this fall as she worked on her applications and essays, and processed what she learned during campus visits. She considered a number of very selective East Coast schools, and was very organized in arranging to interview, sit in on classes, and stay overnight at her favorites so she could get a taste of the genuine student experience. Colgate consistently topped her list, however, and the combination of academic and social opportunities there seem to be perfect for Ellie. It’s also one of the most beautiful campuses I’ve ever toured! I was delighted that even after she was accepted to Colgate via Early Decision, Ellie stopped into College Counseling  for the “senior privilege” of having hot chocolate, coffee or tea in my office … using my Colgate mug whenever possible. It’s a fun tradition that helps me keep in touch with seniors even after their process wraps up.

The 54 members of the Class of 2017 were offered admission to 113 different colleges/universities in 31 states, Washington D.C., and Canada. They will attend 33 different colleges/universities in 14 states. Learn more about MPA’s College Counseling program here! >
