As the 2016–17 school year comes to an end, we’re sharing the college choice stories of several members of the Class of 2017.

In what grade did you come to MPA? 11th

How did you come to choose the college that you did?
I knew that Colorado College had been my dream since the day I discovered it, but after meeting all of the amazing people I would go to school with, there was no doubt that I belonged there.

What are you most excited about as you embark on your college experience?
I’m excited to challenge and push myself to grow into the best person I can be.

What did you appreciate most about the college counseling process at MPA?
I really appreciated all of the help with my essays.

What about your MPA experience has best prepared you for college?
I think the small class sizes and the approachability of the teachers has helped me to feel comfortable sharing my opinions and asking for help.

What is your advice for the Class of 2029 (kindergartners)?
Never stop working hard for what you want.

Insights from Ms. Pederson, Director of College Counseling:
Olivia was certain of several things as she began her college search: her interest in neuroscience, the attractiveness of the “one-course-at-a-time” or “block plan,” and her appreciation of the people and gorgeous setting of Colorado College. Still, she seriously explored several other colleges that offered her admission and even scholarships, by interviewing, doing overnights, and meeting with professors to learn about research options and facilities on those campuses. Olivia and I met several times to discuss and review her essays, which needed to help her stand out from the crowd in Colorado College’s highly selective admissions process. In the end, she featured some of her personal experiences and priorities in a way that I believe made her uniquely memorable.

The 54 members of the Class of 2017 were offered admission to 113 different colleges/universities in 31 states, Washington D.C., and Canada. They will attend 33 different colleges/universities in 14 states. Learn more about MPA’s College Counseling program here! >
