Devens earned all-conference twice and received the team\u2019s coaches\u2019 award as a sophomore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved the team environment in swimming. It taught me how to work in relays, and at meets, and how to support others while also focusing on my own races,\u201d she recalls. \u201cMy favorite swimming memory came junior year when a bunch of my classmates came to the conference meet and then after they helped someone ask me to the semi-formal dance!\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Devens also participated in track and field for the Panthers, running the 800m and 4x800m relay. In addition to her athletics success, Devens was a focused student. She was a member of the National Honor Society, student council vice president, a 2015 national merit commended student and winner of the MPA French department award. In Speech, she was a state qualifier in the informative speaking category.<\/p>\n<p>Following her time as a Panther, Devens chose to swim collegiately at the University of Chicago. She recorded top five finishes at various meets in the 1000m freestyle (11:38.08), 500m freestyle (5:26.97) and 200m backstroke (2:27.87). Overall, her collegiate swimming bests included 2:05.69 in the 200 yard freestyle, 5:26.97 in the 500 yard freestyle, 11:38.08 in the 1,000 yard freestyle, 18:58.17 in the 1,650 yard freestyle, 32.55 in the 50 yard backstroke, 2:27.87 in the 200 yard backstroke, and 2:33.00 in the 200 yard IM.<\/p>\n<p>Devens graduated with a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in statistics and French. During the summer of 2017, she worked with under privileged, high potential kids via as fellow with Breakthrough New York.
