Connection, Community, and What’s Ahead

August 27, 2026

from Dr. Lori-Anne Brogdon, head of school

Welcome back to the 2026-27 school year! The start of the school year always exudes excitement and anticipation for what’s to come, coupled with perhaps some nervousness about entering a new space or division. Over the last two weeks it has been wonderful to see returning and new members to Mounds Park Academy at preservice staffulty workshops, Back To School Open House, New Student and Family Orientations, and the first day of school! It is always a delight to see how our students have grown and hear about summer experiences.

The MPA community is truly special. Seeing our senior class gather on the first day of school to watch the sunrise on the track was a beautiful moment. It was a clear example of what connection looks like, feels like, and sounds like at our school. As we continue to sustain and deepen our ties to one another, there is much to look forward to this school year including: the new PreK-12 house system, monthly assemblies, the Distinguished Speaker Series through the Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning, and language exchange programs in the Upper School, just to name a few!

Looking ahead, this is also a year to reflect on what we value and love about MPA, and where we want to grow. In February, we welcome a team of independent school educators for our ISACS re-accreditation. This four-day visit is intended to affirm and provide feedback on MPA’s program. In addition, starting this fall, MPA will also embark on a yearlong strategic planning process, with many opportunities to engage students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni. It is an exciting time as MPA continues to dream big and do right!

Tomorrow, we hold our first assembly of the school year, followed by MPA’s annual Ice Cream Social! I look forward to seeing you there and at future events throughout the school year!
