Hear From Mr. Ewer

There is something truly special about this community. From the moment I arrived at Mounds Park Academy, I felt a sense of warmth and authenticity that is hard to put into words. Families, students, and colleagues didn’t just share logistics or expectations—they shared their hopes and dreams. That openness—the willingness to be both vulnerable and visionary—is what makes this place so meaningful.

In the Lower School, we believe that learning is deeply connected to belonging. Our goal is to create an environment where every child feels seen, known, and valued—where curiosity is encouraged, confidence is nurtured, and each student begins to understand their own unique brilliance.

We are intentional about building a community where students not only grow academically, but also develop a strong sense of self and a connection to something larger than themselves. We want our students to ask questions, take risks, show care for others, and imagine what’s possible.

Whether you are exploring MPA or have been here for many years, I hope you feel what so many of us feel—that this is a place where children are supported, challenged, and truly known.

Emphasis On Character

Character Education is taught through daily interactions and a formal program. Student-led assemblies, focused lessons, and conflict management education equip students to practice respect, inclusivity, and compassion for each other.

Play and meaningful socialization help them thrive emotionally. When they feel respected, understood, and connected to their community, their confidence soars.

Our Whole Child Approach

Through hands-on inquiry and interdisciplinary learning, Lower School faculty ensure that the curiosity and sense of wonder inherent in children flourish. Students are exposed to a wide variety of subjects taught by subject-matter specialists, including drama, technology, fine arts, world language, physical education, library, and more, helping them see that everything they learn relates to themselves and to our world. They discover the beauty of our diverse cultures and identities to begin developing the skills for creating a more socially just world.
