Portrait of a Graduate
MPA’s Portrait of a Graduate outlines the qualities and skills we aim to develop in our students. This vision focuses on preparing students to be well-rounded, capable individuals who graduate ready to thrive in various aspects of their lives. The goal of this framework is to grow and support students who are not only academically prepared, but also socially responsible, resilient, and motivated to make meaningful contributions to the world.

The Learning Process
Mounds Park Academy engages students in a rigorous college-preparatory experience that cultivates dreamers and doers. Our academic program is demanding, but not draining, and goes far beyond memorization.
At MPA, you will be challenged to apply your understanding of the curriculum to stir the human spirit, stand for justice, and shake the world.
This is rigor with purpose and it grounds students in the radical idea that their identity in the world is not measured by a test score, but rather by the depth and decency of their impact on the world.
Competencies for Future-Ready Learners
At MPA, we embrace a competency-based approach to education that empowers students to take ownership of their learning and ensures that each student not only acquires essential knowledge but also develops the skills and dispositions necessary for lifelong success.
These nine competencies were thoughtfully developed by blending MPA’s core values with a research-backed understanding of what students need to succeed in today’s world—and tomorrow’s. These competencies and their associated skills shape the design and assessments of tasks and projects for all ages and disciplines, focusing on not just what students know, but what they can do, in a personalized approach with clear trajectories for growth.
MPA’s competency-based approach helps us fulfill our educational promise, where learning
is personalized, equitable, and built around each learner’s potential. Throughout their academic journey, MPA students embody a combination of the competencies and Portrait of a Graduate.
