Middle School students are expected to meet or exceed minimum academic standards to be invited back for the next school year. The Middle School Director reviews each student’s academic performance on a quarterly basis. In grades six through eight, if a student receives two or more Fs, three or more Ds, or some combination thereof in a semester, that student will then have had an unsatisfactory academic semester and will be placed on academic probation for the following semester. Students in grade five who receive two or more Ns in a semester will be placed on probation. Two unsatisfactory semesters in one school year may result in that student not being invited back for the next school year. A team approach is taken to determine the best course of action on the student’s behalf, involving parents/guardians, teachers, specialists, and the MS Director and Assistant Director. Possible interventions include, but are not limited to, tutoring, weekly check-ins, suspension from participation in athletics or co-curricular activities, and/or online programs. The goal of these interventions is to see evidence of academic growth, not necessarily mastery of the content.
