maker fest 2018Interested in the mechanics of robotics or the intricacy of textiles? Curious how woodworking is advancing global medicine and how common household items are upcycled and given new life? Have you ever seen a squishy circuit? The Makers of the 2018 First Annual Maker Fest will answer all of your questions this Saturday!

You already met Jess Blue and learned about her handmade garments and accessories, but there is a whole community of Makers just waiting to guide you through the Maker Movement. While all of these Makers sound amazing in writing, their inventions and creations are going to be even better to see in person. We are very excited to share them all with you firsthand at the MPA Maker Fest on Saturday from 1-3 PM!

MPA Middle School student Charlotte has created her own series of bullet journals. If you have not explored the trend of bullet journals yet, she is looking forward to showing you how they tackle the tedious trick of organization and prioritization in the most creative of ways.

Our friends from the University of St. Thomas (who are students of Dr. AnnMarie Thomas!) are bringing projects from their own Makerspace to ours! Meet them to complete their interactive flipbook activity and play with their Squishy Circuits!

The Catudio family has invented a revolutionary plywood wheelchair as a solution to making wheelchairs accessible and affordable all around the world. They’ll have a presentation to view on how it will work.

MPA Upper School student Dylan Dickinson will be displaying a metal foundry that he made himself. A foundry produces castings by melting metals into a liquid, pouring the metal in a mold, and removing the casting after the metal has solidified as it cools. His foundry and smithing is a unique process that he is excited to share.

The Wentinks, an MPA Lower School family, will be showcasing a variety of homemade inventions! You do not want to miss their handmade wooden table, Estes rocket, and Altoids synthesizer!

The Dicksons, another Lower School family, are bringing a new take on how you say “Happy birthday!” to Maker Fest. They are displaying handmade greeting cards that include their own circuits and LED lights!

Michael Wilke, an MPA alum, is going to bring your favorite robotic characters to life! Make sure to find him at Maker Fest to meet BB-8 and R2-D2!

The McGrorty family will be displaying a variety of different things they enjoy making at home, from 3D sculptures to quilts.

MPA Middle and Upper School World language teacher Marisue Gleason will have her MPA stained glass she created at Maker Fest! She is also going to share her brilliant design process from beginning to end.

MPA parent Dan Murr will not only be displaying his crafty woodworking skills, but will also portray his Maker process, specifically using the familiar homeowner’s example of siding on a garage.

Shari Hammer will be able to help you make your own quilt! Find her at Maker Fest to see hers and learn more.

The Scearcy family created a custom code and syntax for an mBot turtle that they can’t wait to show you!

MPA Middle School science teacher Courtney Nagle is bringing a surprise that you have to see to believe!

Upper School science teacher Marc Shapiro will be testing out a new MPA robotics team robot at their display, so you can get a look at what MPA robotics has been working on lately as well as see it in action!
