IMAC boys relay teamMPA opened the 2018 outdoor season later than usual due to surprise April snows, but finally got underway with our first meet on May 3 at the IMAC relays, a relay-only meet.

Highlights from the girls team included the 4x1600m team of senior Sarah Ley, ninth graders Izzy Quam and Katie Dahiya, and seventh grader Margo N. placing third with a total time of 26:29.41.  Margo N. finished in fifth place in the 1600m individually with a personal best time of 5:53.35!  In the 800m sprint medley, the team of seniors Maya Sayers and Quinn Campbell, junior Catherine Moore, and ninth grader Izzy Quam placed second. Their time of 1:59.42 is the third fastest in MPA history!

In the high jump relay, senior Quinn Campbell, junior Gabby Law, and sophomore Aaliyah Kellogg each jumped 4’2 to place third as a team. Their total height of 12’6 is the third best ever at MPA! The long jump relay, consisting of sophomores Catherine Moore and Annie Portoghese, and ninth grader Izzy Quam, totaled 38’2.5, eighth all time at MPA.  In the triple jump relay, junior Gabby Law and ninth graders Izzy Quam and Emma Cohen jumped a total of 80’2.75, second at the meet and seventh all time at MPA. Izzy Quam finished in fourth place individually with a jump of 29’11. In the discus, sophomore Catherine Moore placed fourth with a personal best of 74’6.

On the boys side, the 4x1600m of senior Declan Dahlberg, junior Matt Bourne, sophomore Henry Snider, and eighth grader Isak N., were IMAC Conference Champions! Their total time of 18:49.71 is the second best all time at MPA. Senior Declan Dahlberg, junior Matt Bourne, and sophomore Henry Snider also finished 1-2-3 in the 1600m for a Panthers’ sweep! The 110m hurdle relay team of junior Dylan Dickinson and sophomore Charles Grimes placed third.  Dylan placed fifth individually and moved into tenth place all-time at MPA in that event.  Dylan also set a personal best in the 300m hurdles to move up ninth all-time in that event.  In the 4x200m, the team of senior Ben Yoch and juniors Flynn Opatz, Yahya Madar, and Henry Peterson ran 1:40.07 to move up to ninth place on MPA’s all time list. The boys 4x800m team of senior Declan Dahlberg, juniors Matt Bourne, and Henry Peterson, and sophomore Henry Snider, placed second in a time of 9:01.99.  The 800m sprint medley team of juniors Tae’Vion Wilkins and Ian Olson, and sophomores Nathan Harvanko and Kailil Schertzing placed fourth in a time of 1:42.39, fourth best all-time at MPA.

In the high jump, junior Yahya Madar placed first, with a school record and personal best jump of 6’5, which is tied for the third best jump in Minnesota so far this year! In the triple jump relay, the team of juniors Tae’Vion Wilkins, Dylan Dickson, and Flynn Opatz placed second with a total jump of 105’3.5, second best all-time at MPA.  Tae’Vion Wilkins finished third individually with a jump of 37’7. In the discus, the team of seniors Sumner Wu and Paul Thompson-Nelson, and sophomore Charlie Galicich placed third, with Sumner recording a personal best throw of 98’11 to place fifth individually.  In the Shot Put, seniors Salman Aden, Paul Thompson-Nelson, and junior Ethan Berning placed third, with Ethan placing fifth individually with a distance of 35’10, and Salman and Paul both recording personal bests.
