4th Grader Studying Butterflies in CourtyardYou and your entire family are warmly invited to attend the MPA Preview on Sunday, November 8 at 2 PM.

Though virtual, this event will provide prospective families with an opportunity to truly discover the type of remarkable hands on learning that MPA students do each day.

You will rotate among several classes, taught by expert faculty. These will be interactive, experiential sessions that are actually abbreviated versions of real MPA lessons, modified to be appropriate for all ages.

Prospective families will also have an opportunity to take a virtual tour and experience 17 of our state-of-the-art spaces.

Lower School Sessions

Early Humans with Yamini Kimmerle, DeeDee Stacy, Lower School fourth grade teachers
Join our fourth grade teachers from their “cave” on campus!  After reading a story on Hominids, students will engage with Ms. Stacy and Kimmerle and do their own interactive early human activities from home.

Toss and Try with Mr. Tim Sheehan, Lower School physical education teacher
Improve your tossing and catching skills during the Toss and Try session. You will learn how to properly toss, catch, and work through several challenges that are safe to do at home. You only need two socks rolled up in a ball to participate!

Middle School Sessions

Break A Leg: Middle School Theater in Action with Heather Mastel, Lower and Middle School drama teacher
At the foundation of theatre are three “actor tools” – your body, face, and voice! Join us for a low-risk intro to middle school theatre, as we put these tools to work. After a quick stretch, we will create frozen statues/tableaus and super-short scenes!

Science + Design: Innovation, Creativity, and Citizenship with Mr. John Milam, Middle School science teacher
In 7th and 8th grade, science becomes an adventure in engineering, design-thinking, and the application of new knowledges. Mr. Milam engages students in challenging curriculum that pushes students to apply science concepts in a way that makes the world a better place. Students will engage in a design thinking activity and discrepant event experiment.

Upper School Sessions

An Interdisciplinary Approach To American Studies with Ms. Katie Murr and Ms. Sara Mohn, Upper School history and English teachers
Ms. Murr and Ms. Mohn will take students through a poem and images to explore the different identities of our nation. The poem and images will open up discussion for how our nation has defined itself across the years.

Using a Smartphone to Explore the Physics of Sound with Mr. Marc Shapiro, Upper School science teacher
We will explore the physics of sound with smartphone apps that can measure audio signals, sound level pressure, and much more. The ability to make these measurements without expensive equipment has given students opportunities to do real physics even when at home, and the portability and accuracy of the smartphone sensors allows students to make precise measurements in the lab that were previously impossible.

As you consider school options for your children, please make plans to attend. It will be one of only two PreK-12 event offerings this year and certainly one not to miss!

Kindly RSVP in advance for this engaging program at moundsparkacademy.org/RSVP. If you have any questions, contact the Office of Admission at 651-748-5577 or admission@moundsparkacademy.org. Prospective students are welcome and encouraged to join alongside their parents/guardians.

We look forward to getting to know your family!
