Sisley Ng shined as the Panthers’ goalkeeper, playing on the girls varsity soccer team starting in seventh grade and subsequently earning five varsity letters. Her MPA soccer experience prepared her for playing at the next level because she was able to play multiple positions on the field. “Those experiences helped me understand the game and the positions a lot more,” she said.

Ng served as team captain, earned the Panthers’ defensive player of the year award and was named to the IMAC all-conference first team as a senior in 2014.

Ng’s favorite Panther soccer memory comes from a game that year against Minnehaha Academy when she set up a teammate perfectly for the game winning goal with nine seconds left, notching an assist in the 2-1 victory.

Off the pitch, Ng also earned varsity letters in both basketball and softball. She made the honor roll in every semester of Upper School and was inducted into Quill and Scroll, an international high school journalism honor society

Ng has continued her soccer career in college at Division II University of Minnesota, Duluth. In her first season, as a true freshman in 2015, she started six games and recorded one shutout, a 3-0 UMD win. As a sophomore, she made 13 starts as UMD’s goalkeeper and posted four shutouts, a team high. She posted a goals against average of 1.39 while recording over 1,200 minutes of playing time, and posting a career high 10 saves in two different games.

As a junior in 2017, she started in goal in 16 of the Bulldogs’ 19 games, going 9-5-2 with four shutouts (her nine victories were the most by a UMD player since 2013). Ng recorded a career best 1.08 goals against average with 70 saves, also a career high, in 1,503 minutes of playing time. She is now seventh on UMD’s all-time saves list with 180. In recognition for her accomplishments as a junior, Ng was named the Bulldogs’ team MVP.

“This award could have gone to a number of Bulldogs, but the impact Ng has made to the program since she walked on as a freshman two years ago has been UMD’s biggest benefactor,” stated the UMD women’s’ soccer press release. “Ng instantly competed for playing time and shared time in between the posts for the last two seasons before claiming the outright starting job this year. A vocal leader on and off the field, Ng quietly put together a solid season.”

Ng was the team captain for her final collegiate season, and though it was ended early after an injury, Ng made only nine starts, coaches around the league agreed that Ng meant so much to the Bulldogs that she was named to the All-NSIC second team after allowing eight goals for a 0.88 goals against average with 43 saves and five shutouts.

Ng finished fourth in Bulldog history with 223 career saves, eighth in saves percentage at .802, seventh in 13 shutouts, seventh in with a goals against average of 1.15, and seventh in wins with 18. She was one of 11 UMD Bulldogs to qualify for the 2018 fall NSIC all-academic team. She majored in kinesiology and exercise science, and is now pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy at Concordia University in St. Paul.
