Maggie Harper was just a ninth grader when she was asked to step up and play an important role on the 2008 MPA girl’s golf team. The team had never won a conference or section title in the 20 years since girl’s golf began at MPA in 1988. But 2008 would be different, and Harper proved she was up for the task. In a season in which she would be named the team’s rookie of the year, Harper finished as one of the top six girls for the class A state champion Panthers.

The next year, the Panthers won the class A state championship again and Harper was named the team’s most valuable golfer, an award she would go on to win two more times. Harper finished her golf career at MPA with an impressive four Tri Metro all-conference awards, four varsity letters (plus two in basketball) and four trips to the class A state golf tournament. “There were honestly too many fun times at MPA to come up with just one,” says Harper, remembering back to her time on the team.

Harper’s time at MPA helped her prepare for the difficult world of collegiate athletics. “MPA prepared me for success by helping me to ask the right questions and always leave me hungry for more both on and off the course,” she said.

Harper continued her golf career at Division I Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Playing for the Sycamores, she posted a career best 36 hole total of 173 at the Indiana State Invitational in 2014. She earned four varsity letters as a member of the women’s golf team.

Always a strong student, Harper made the dean’s list all eight semesters at Indiana State and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in applied medicine and rehabilitation. She now works at Google.
