In an era where three sport athletes are increasingly rare, Morgan Emmans proved to be the exception to the rule. Emmans earned 12 varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and softball, playing just about everything for the Panthers.
Her main sport was softball, where Emmans played catcher and dominated the diamond for MPA. She ended her career with the school record in batting average and hits, and set the single season record for doubles (11) and triples (5). She was an all-conference, all-section and all-state honorable mention in each of her four years.
In basketball, she was a four year letter winner and three time all-conference award winner, and defensive MVP. In volleyball, she earned a varsity letter in each of her four years. Emmans served as team captain of the softball and basketball teams as a senior and was MPA’s 2015 Athena Award and Panther Award honoree.
Following her successful prep career at MPA, Emmans chose to play softball at Division II St. Cloud State University. “Morgan comes from a family with a history of attending St. Cloud State (her grandfather Wendell Dennie Emmans played baseball for the Huskies) and we are very proud to add her to our Huskies softball program,” said SCSU coach Paula U’Ren. “She is a well-rounded, versatile student athlete that can impact our team. Morgan has been a great leader on both her high school and summer teams. We look forward to Morgan having a great career at St. Cloud State.”
In her first year as a Husky, as a true freshman, she played in thirty games, had thirteen starts, and hit .295 with six runs, thirteen hits, three doubles, a triple, a home run, and nine RBIs.
In her sophomore year in 2017, Emmans truly broke through. she started all 55 of the Huskies’ games batting .275, scoring 26 runs, recording 42 hits with eight doubles, two triples and five home runs. She recorded a total of 31 RBIs and had six multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games. She played catcher and first base.
As a junior in 2018, started all 54 games at the catcher position, led the team in RBIs, total bases and home runs, and finished second on the team in batting average (.346), and hits, while leading the Huskies to 35-19 record and fourth place finish in the NSIC Conference. For her success, Emmans earned second team all-NSIC honors, and was named the St. Cloud State University female athlete of the month in April.
In Emmans’ 2019 senior season, she was named team captain and, as the starting catcher in all of the team’s 61 games, helped lead the Huskies to a 43-18 record, their best since 2003, and an at large bid in the NCAA tournament. Emmans did not commit a single error in NSIC play and earned gold glove honors from the conference. She also led the Huskies with 54 runs and 13 home runs, including a walk off home run beat the University of Sioux Falls in the final at bat of her home career. She was one of five members of the Huskies softball team to earn NSIC Academic honors as a senior.
“MPA prepared me to balance being a student and an athlete. Throughout my experiences both at MPA and at St. Cloud State, I can say that all of the coaches who helped me get to where I am today have been my biggest inspirations. Every coach, teacher, or professor I have ever had has given me the tools I need to be successful in not only my career, but in life as well,” said Emmans.
Emmans majored elementary education and with a minor in human relations and now serves as an assistant coach for the Huskies softball team.
