Fawzan AslamHow many years have you been a student at MPA?
This is my second year here at MPA!

What do you love about MPA?
I appreciate the aspect of community at MPA. In school, you’ll find a diversity of people that share common interests and ideas, while also standing for their own beliefs. This community is supportive and bolstering for a student’s success and overall experience, because of the apparent cohesiveness of a well-educated and friendly student body.

How are you encouraged to dream big and do right at MPA?
MPA encourages me to ‘dream big and do right’ with opportunities and the ability to bring about change. At MPA, I am able to pursue new opportunities and challenges apart from the regular school curriculum. Either this being leading Social Consciousness Club presentations or engaging in helpful Speech and Debate practices, there will always be opportunities for students. Moreover, students who create and engage in these clubs and groups are able to create change not only within the MPA community, but outside as well. By ‘dreaming big and doing right’, the actions of MPA students have a big and long-lasting impact.

Why do you believe your teachers teach the way they do?
Simply put, our teachers here at MPA teach the way they do because they are devoted to their students and love their jobs. The curriculum created is meant to facilitate student growth while learning new concepts and ideas, adhering to MPA’s own message of “rigor with a purpose.” As a result, during lectures, students have the ability to be hands-on and collaborative during projects and assignments. This is truly what sets MPA’s educators apart from other institutions.

If you have attended another school, how has your experience here been different?
At MPA, I have the ability to respectfully discuss and express my views and who I am as a student. An open and welcoming community is a clear distinction that I see compared to other schools I had attended.

What would you tell another student your age considering MPA?
Join if you can! Our diverse student body is welcoming and involved, and new students seeking future prospects here must know that they’ll be able to accomplish so much more at MPA with a rigorous curriculum and a supportive community.

In what ways has MPA prepared you for life beyond school?
MPA has prepared me with the ability to communicate effectively with my teachers and fellow students. Communication is an integral part for success in your high school years, and my time at my MPA has helped me add-on to those skills, while also allowing me to recognize further, areas of academic interest.

What’s your big dream?
That’s a tough one, but I hope to pursue a masters degree in biomedical engineering, and assume a career in social justice.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MPA experience?
As a first-generation immigrant, getting through this country’s twist and turns has never been easy. I had always found myself confused or out-of-place in other areas. However, MPA’s aspiring community of leaders and learners has allowed me to participate and engage in change through well-thought academic discussions and excellent curriculum.
