Nan Wang, MPA Upper School Chinese teacher.Welcome to MPA, Ms. Nan Wang! Ms. Wang is set to join as the Upper School Chinese teacher, and we are so excited to introduce her to our community.

From what school/organization are you coming?
I am coming from Cretin-Derham Hall.

Tell us about your education and past experience.
I got my bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, majoring in math and economics, and received a Master’s Degree of Science in actuarial science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have been teaching beginning to advanced-level Chinese for more than ten years. I love teaching about my native language and culture.

What did you find appealing about MPA?
What I love the most about MPA is the inclusive culture. All students are happy here, and my daughter loves going to school. Also, all the faculty I met are very open and friendly.

What lasting impact do you plan to have on MPA and its students?
I hope to build the Chinese program, encourage more students to learn Mandarin, and learn about Chinese culture. I also want to put my hobby and strong piano skills to use, with students’ interests and help, to start a club related to Asian culture and Asian music.

What’s your big dream?
I have many dreams: to visit as many countries as possible in my lifetime, to meet and talk to Yuja Wang (Chinese pianist) in person, and to raise my daughter to be a good global citizen. My biggest dream is to be able to sight-read music as well as my piano teacher; this will also be the hardest dream to make come true.

What are you and your family passionate about?
I live with my husband, our daughter, and sometimes with my parents when they visit from China. I love to play the piano; I hope someday I will be able to play all my favorite anime songs’ four-hand piano arrangements with my daughter. I also love to travel and see the world, and I love to take my daughter with me to show her the big world out there.

What’s a fun fact about you that our community would love to know?
While learning classical repertoire on the piano, I found I’m a big fan of anime piano music, and I have a YouTube channel.
