In this issue of Inside MPA, we’ve connected with Alli Capasso, assistant director of admission, to ask about how her summer is going so far and what the admission process currently looks like in July.
What are the advantages of starting the application process over the summer?
Summer is the perfect time to begin your school search with less stress and more space to reflect. Families who start the application process now have time to explore, ask thoughtful questions, and envision the best fit for their child—without the competing demands of a busy school year. At MPA, the admission team is here all summer to guide you every step of the way.
What do you hope every new family experiences in their first year at MPA?
I hope they find a community! Our students are known, seen, and accepted for exactly who they are. I hope our parents find “the village” that will help raise their children to be problem-solvers, risk-takers, and people who will stand for justice and kindness in the world.
What’s one thing families are often surprised to learn during the admission process?
The care and attention we give to each and every family is unparalleled. Once you connect with one of us in the Office of Admission, we are your person. We help guide you through every step of the process. We also take great pride in getting to know your family and your child. We are the first relationship you are forming at MPA, and we take that very seriously.
What excites you most about the upcoming school year?
One of the most rewarding parts of each year is welcoming new students and witnessing the incredible growth that unfolds. I’m continually inspired by how students thrive at MPA—where they’re truly known and supported by their teachers, and embraced by peers who encourage them to be confident in who they are and what they believe. It is a really special place. And I am in a unique position where I get to know families and students before they come to MPA, and then I get to see the impact a place like MPA can have. It is awesome!
Have you read any great books or learned something new this summer?
I love reading, and I’m happy that I am finding more time for it lately. My favorite book I have read so far is “The Wedding People” by Alison Espach. There is an amazing community of readers at MPA, and this book was recommended by a colleague. I have also been listening to “The Last Kids on Earth” by Max Brallier with my son, which has been super fun!
