Save The Date For MPA Talks

MPA talks save the dateJoin us for the fourth annual MPA Talks on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, featuring thoughtful presentations by MPA Lower School parent Dr. Sheneeta W. White, Upper School student Ling DeBellis, and Upper School science faculty member Hannah Sullivan. We are so delighted to feature some of Mounds Park Academy’s most captivating community members and you will learn much more about them in upcoming issues of Panther Post.

This event is designed to bring us together to gain new perspectives and be inspired. The reception and hors d’oeuvres will begin in the Gallery at 5 PM, followed by the featured speakers’ presentations from 6-7 PM. No RSVP is required and Middle and Upper School students are welcome! Panther Club/Den and dinner will be available for students through grade six as well. Upper School Art Exhibition

ling debellis art show drawingMPA invites you to join us at the upcoming Upper School Art Show Reception! Sharing artists’ work from all first semester visual arts courses, this display includes a wide variety of moods and perspectives, and every grade in the division is represented. It also encompasses a balance of two and three-dimensional visual mediums, including drawing, ceramics, painting, photography, and studio 2D.

The reception is on Wednesday, February 7, at 6:30 PM in the Gallery. The exhibition will be on display until February 19!

 


Show Your MPA Pride At Spirit Night

Spirit night basketball gamesBring your Panther pride and cheer on MPA on Friday, February 9 as we take on IMAC rival St. Paul Academy for Spirit Night! Students, alumni, and families from all divisions are encouraged to pack the Lansing Sports Center for an evening of basketball and school spirit! The C and JV teams play at 4:15 PM, followed by the girls varsity at 6 PM, and boys varsity at 7:30 PM. Go Panthers!


MPA Girls Nordic Ski Champions

The boys team set a school record this season, and now the girls are taking home the 2017-2018 IMAC Conference Championship for the third year in a row over Blake, Breck, Heritage/Providence, and Minnehaha Academy. Middle School student Margo N. took third place at the Nordic Championship at Elm Creek and to help the team win the championship! Go Panthers!


Celebrating an Allergy Aware Valentine’s Day

Looking for something beyond the little ones’ tastebuds? We are also very excited to share that MPA is on Pinterest, and premiering a food-free Valentine’s Day idea board! Head there to find tons of fun and slightly out-of-the-box ways to say “I care about you!” to all of your friends this Valentine’s Day! We can’t wait to celebrate with you and see what your creativity brings to the Lower School festivities on February 14!


IMAC Athletes Of The Month At MPA

mpa athletes of the monthThree MPA student athletes have been named Independent Metro Athletic Conference Athletes of the Month so far this year!

October was a strong month for MPA’s athletes. Senior Declan Dahlberg was recognized for cross country. During his season, he finished in second place in the State Cross Country meet, wrote his own column in MileSplit MN, received Academic All State Honors, and signed with the University of Minnesota’s Track and Field and Cross Country Teams.

Additionally in October, MPA junior Maia Kelly was named Athlete of the Month for her accomplishments in volleyball. Maia has been named the “Semper Fidelis Player of the Match” three times, was part of the MPA record-breaking volleyball team this year, and was named on the Independent Metro All-Conference list. She is currently playing on the MPA Girls Varsity Basketball Team.

MPA Alum Honored by Local Nonprofit

Rose Miller '06 with puppiesMPA alum Rose Miller ’06 received a special honor at the Animal Humane Society called the Values Award. This recognition celebrates individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the organization and exemplify the Animal Humane Society’s organizational values: be good to animals, partner with people, and lead responsibly with compassion.

Rose is the social media producer for AHS, turning the organization’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat profiles into resources for supporters. Rose has helped grow the loyal audience to more than 120,000 followers. She exceeds in her role as the voice of AHS and takes it very seriously. She uses her skills and storytelling tools to post thoughtfully and engagingly, developing her content and organization tactics far in advance. Read More


Seeking Nominees for the MPA Board of Trustees

MPA Board of TrusteesMPA’s Board of Trustees is a self-generative body of about 18–22 trustees, each of whom serves up to two 3-year terms. The Governance Committee of the Board solicits, evaluates, interviews, and recommends to the full Board, for its consideration, potential candidates to serve as trustees.

Over the upcoming weeks, the Board’s Governance Committee is commencing its annual process of identifying, evaluating, and interviewing a slate of potential trustee candidates. Candidates will be presented to the full Board at its May meeting, and candidates who are selected to serve will begin their first 3-year term in July 2018.

MPA Alum Receives Student Film Production Award

Erin Law and Megan McKinley with their Crystal Pillar AwardErin Law, Class of 2012, received a Crystal Pillar Award at the the Chicago-Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last weekend! The Crystal Pillar is NATAS’ highest award for student productions.

Erin is in her second year of graduate studies, mastering in digital media and storytelling. Erin’s documentary, created with Megan McKinley of California, was “Dress For Success.” The mission of Dress For Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
